Wisconsin 8th in Nation in Vaccines Used
Has administered 80.2% of all doses it has received, better than 42 states, according to CDC.
Wisconsin spent much of January in the bottom 30% of states in vaccine administration by a variety of different factors.
But over the past seven days, Wisconsin reported a best in the nation 0.62 vaccinations administered per 100 residents. How much of that was due to poor past performance and a built up supply of doses? That’s hard to say.
Wisconsin is 10th overall in terms of the percentage of residents receiving at least one dose of the vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data shows the state has given 9.99% of residents at least one dose. The state trails only Alaska, West Virginia, New Mexico, Connecticut, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Virginia and Delaware.
The national average is 9.5 percent.
The state falls to 28th overall when looking at residents that have received a full (two shot) dose. The CDC reports Wisconsin has fully vaccinated 2.63% of residents. West Virginia (5.8%) and Alaska (5.4%) remain in the top two slots.
Wisconsin’s lagging performance in administering two doses can be attributed to its poor start. The Pfizer vaccine requires a 21-day wait, the Moderna vaccine a 28-day wait.
Another long-term measure, the percentage utilization of doses received, shows Wisconsin became a national leader in the past two weeks.
The state has administered 80.2% of all doses it has received according to CDC. That’s good for an eighth in the nation rate.
On January 26th, the 46.4% utilization rate was 46th in the country.
