Milwaukee Arts Board Opens Public Art Conservation Fund’s New Cycle

The Milwaukee Arts Board has launched its new cycle of funding for the conservation of public art in the City of Milwaukee.  The goal is to preserve the city’s cultural and civic heritage embodied in its public art. The fund supports the conservation of works that are historically, culturally and aesthetically important to the city.

In 2021, the Public Art Conservation applications will be considered on a rolling basis as long as funds remain.

In this round, the Arts Board will make $10,000 available to conserve public art.  Individual awards of up to $5,000 must be matched by the applicant.  Qualifying works must be fully accessible to the public. The guidelines and application are available on the Arts Board website.  At its scheduled meeting on March 9, 2021 the Public Art Subcommittee will begin reviewing the applications.  Applications considered at that meeting, must be submitted on or before February 26, 2021.  Thereafter, applications submitted at least two weeks before a regularly scheduled subcommittee meeting will be considered at that session.

The most recent conservation awards went to Lake Park Friends toward the restoration of the General Erastus B. Wolcott Statute in Lake Park and to Milwaukee Downtown toward the cleaning of the Letter Carriers Monument at Cathedral Square.
