Bay View Getting Specialty Burger Restaurant

Gordo Burger, a specialty hamburger restaurant, is planning to open at 2301 S. Howell Ave. in the former home of Little Duck Kitchen — the catering space run by the owners of Odd Duck until it closed in September.

The new restaurant comes from Marwan Otallah, owner of Milwaukee Classic Pizza (3929 S. Howell Ave.) The 5,867 square foot building will serve customers in the first floor and on the patio, according to a business application filed with the city. The restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on weekends. The city still has to approve the permitting and licenses for the business.

The menu features half-pound patty specialty burgers, staple fried appetizers, desserts and a “build your own” selection. Some specialty names are “Freaky Greeky,” a half-pound angus patty with feta and tzatziki sauce, and “Mac Attack,” which has a scoop of macaroni and cheese on top. Beef, lamb and chicken kofta burgers will be available with minced parsley and Mediterranean spices, topped with tahini sauce.

“El Fuego” comes covered in pepper jack cheese, green chili peppers and spicy pepper radish. Nonmeat options like “Amazing Falafel,” and “Where’s The Beef,” a burger made with an Impossible burger patty, will be available as well.

The restaurant will also have a build your own burger option, where patrons can choose between angus beef, wagyu beef, kofta and nonmeat patties. They can top their creation with classic cheeses and toppings, as well as premium toppings like fried eggs, guacamole and turkey bacon. Menu items can be viewed on Gordo Burger’s website.

The 2301 S. Howell Ave. location has seen many different restaurants come and go over the past few years, its latest loss being Little Duck closing due to the ongoing pandemic. Before Little Duck opened in 2018, Hello Falafel had occupied the space for two years. Several other restaurants like Lombardi’s, Mr. WEBO’s and Guanajuato Restaurant operated under its roof before that.
