December 16, 2020 (Milwaukee, WI)– Penfield Children’s Center is a grant recipient of A Community Thrives, a grant-making and crowd-funding program from the USA TODAY NETWORK and a part of the Gannett Foundation. Penfield will receive a $35,000 A Community Thrives grant for the Behavior Clinic, a program that provides trauma-informed mental health services to children 5 years and younger with significant behavioral and/or emotional concerns.

A Community Thrives supports non-profit organizations with projects focused on community building and has helped to contribute more than $12 million since 2017. This year, A Community Thrives engaged participants in 45 states. Penfield was 1 of 3 organizations in Wisconsin to receive a local operating grant as part of a Gannett Foundation program supported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and USA TODAY Network-Wisconsin.

Penfield Children’s Center creates a positive start in life for infants and children, many of whom have developmental delays or disabilities, by providing early education, health services, and family programming. The A Community Thrives grant will allow more families to access Behavior Clinic services.

“Penfield Children’s Center truly appreciates the support of the Gannett Foundation for our Behavior Clinic,” said Chris Holmes, President and CEO of Penfield Children’s Center. “This support will ensure easily accessible and free mental health services for young children and families living in Milwaukee County. During the pandemic, the Behavior Clinic will provide mental health treatment through telehealth services that help parents and children to establish positive routines for at-home learning and family life. Penfield would not be able to provide this level of care without the incredible community support of partners like the Gannett Foundation.”

“We are proud of the work Penfield Children’s Center has done to enhance Milwaukee. At Gannett, we take pride in supporting the organizations that make a positive impact in their communities. Through A Community Thrives, we lend financial support to that purpose as well as rally the whole community to champion a good and meaningful cause,” said CEO and Chairman Mike Reed.
