City receives perfect score on Human Rights Campaign’s Municipality Equality Index
Statement of Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa December 9, 2020
Earlier today we recognized a tremendous accomplishment. The City of Milwaukee received a perfect score of 100 points on the annual Municipality Equality Index released by the Human Rights Campaign. This marks the third year in a row the City has received a perfect score!
The Municipality Equality Index examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies, and services are of LGBTQ+ people who live and work there. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and the city leadership’s public position on equality.
While this achievement is reason to celebrate, it is not forgotten that there is still much work to do for Milwaukee and its people. From the continuing COVID-19 pandemic to the Black Lives Matter movement for social justice and police reform, we must continue to strive for equality for each and every Milwaukeean, and I remain committed to this goal.
