Protests must remain peaceful in the interest of public safety
Statement of Alderman Michael J. Murphy June 4, 2020
In the early morning hours on Thursday, June 4 near the MPD District 5 station while officers were making an arrest of individuals that were obstructing traffic and impeding the traffic flow, an automobile struck two officers and a citizen. Thankfully, after being treated for serious injuries the citizen is in stable condition and the officers only suffered minor injuries.
This type of behavior, along with other acts of vandalism that have occurred in recent days, is unacceptable.
While I respect the right of individuals to peacefully protest, and even encourage them to do so, I want to remind all those involved to practice safety and curtesy for others while demonstrating.
Our city needs to unite as one to overcome the systemic issues that exist, and I look forward to having these conversations and working to help Milwaukee heal and move forward.
