Lt. Gov. Barnes Issues Statement on State of the Tribes Address
MADISON—Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes released the following statement regarding today’s State of the Tribes address:
“This year’s State of the Tribes address, given by Forest County Potawatomi Chairman Ned Daniels, Jr., was a passionate message giving respect to the original stewards of this land, as well as those who have and continue to serve Wisconsin’s tribal communities. It was also a call to action that Wisconsin’s elected leaders do more to uphold the sovereignty of Wisconsin’s 11 federally recognized Native nations.
“From ensuring equitable access to health care to fighting against human trafficking and combatting the effects of climate change, Gov. Tony Evers and I will continue to work for solutions that will be uniquely beneficial to our Native nations and their future generations. Only then can we have a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
