Oak Creek’s Carlos Montañez To Debut Photography Lost In Nature Exhibit
An Opening Reception with the artist will take place Sunday, December 1, 2:00-5:00pm, at the West Allis gallery, located at 1500 S. 73rd Street.
Oak Creek resident, Carlos Montañez, will debut his photography skills with a solo exhibition of landscapes at Inspiration Studios during the month of December. The exhibit is aptly titled Lost in Nature. An Opening Reception with the artist will take place Sunday, December 1, 2:00-5:00pm, at the West Allis gallery, located at 1500 S. 73rd Street. The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
“As a photographer, my goal is to capture those moments that mere words can’t express,” states Montañez. “My camera became my main outlet of expression once I noticed that my best interpretation of my surroundings came from behind the lens.”
Since moving to Wisconsin from Florida a year ago, Montañez has been intrigued by the architecture of the Midwest, its historical buildings and massive structures. This exhibit deviates from that strong interest, inspired by a recent trip to Ireland’s Aran Islands, Dingle Peninsula and Wicklow, where many of the photos were taken of parks, beaches, waterfalls, and hillsides. This debut exhibit also features scenery from Gatlinburg (Tennessee), Hubertus (Wisconsin) and the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina.
All photographs are framed and ready for hanging. All pieces will be available for purchase.
”Photography and the printing process are my way of encapsulating a precious moment or landscape in order to create something tangible and real. Being from the city and having recently moved to the Midwest, I immediately became fascinated with nature and the beauty that engulfs it. So I took this opportunity to get lost in nature, to capture the beauty that exists in my new surroundings. I am fortunate to have the luxury to see and appreciate it.”
When asked about his goals for this exhibit, Montañez offered the following.”My hope is that viewers of my photographs will better appreciate the wonders that surround them and their environment, the beautiful colors within its scenery. One doesn’t need to be a photographer to appreciate these things, but rather one needs to pause… just to look around. For those unable to take that pause, my exhibit offers a glimpse of what awaits outside…as viewed through my lens.”
The Opening Reception for Lost in Nature will take place Sunday, December 1, 2-5pm at Inspiration Studios, 1500 S. 73rd Street in West Allis. It is free and open to the public. For those unable to attend the opening, the exhibit will be available for viewing during Village Playhouse’s production of The Lilies of the Field (December 6-22). Private viewings can also be arranged by contacting the gallery.
