Madison, WI — Today, State Senator David Craig (R-Town of Vernon) applauded the State Senate’s passage of Senate Joint Resolution 59, the “State Budget Protection Act” which would prohibit any governor from using a partial veto to increase expenditures in a budget bill. Senator Craig released the following statement:

“The constitutional amendment the Senate passed today will protect taxpayers and preserve the legislature’s core authority to create laws and set spending limits. This was the first step toward preventing future governors from resurrecting funding legislature has not approved.

The amendment will ensure that the will of taxpayers, through their elected representatives, will have final say in limiting the overall spending in the state budget. Today was a win for limited government, the separation of powers, and the citizens of Wisconsin.”

Senator Craig represents the 28th Senate District which includes parts of Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, and Walworth counties.
