Wild Space Creates Making/Unmaking at The Warehouse
Making/Unmaking explores what it means to make, view and interpret visual art.

Milwaukee, WI (January 27, 2019)…Art leaps from gallery walls in Making/Unmaking, Wild Space Dance Company’s site-specific performance at Milwaukee’s newest gallery, The Warehouse in the Menomonee Valley. Making/Unmaking performances are at 7:30 p.m., February 21-23, with a matinee at 2:30 pm on February 24 at The Warehouse on 1635 W. St. Paul Avenue. There is limited seating, advance ticket purchase strongly recommended. Advance tickets are $22 for general admission, $16 for students and seniors, and are available by calling 800-838-3006 or online at www.wildspacedance.org. Tickets at the door are $25 for general admission, $18 for students and seniors.
“One of my passions is visual art,” says Artistic Director Debra Loewen, “I have often incorporated visual art, video and film in my work because it fulfills a desire to make two-dimensional works into three-dimensional movement. When Guardian Fine Art Services owner John Shannon suggested Wild Space create a performance for their new gallery space, The Warehouse, I leapt at the opportunity. The former industrial space with its stout columns and brick façade help inspire the dance work we are creating.”
“The performance is like a moving landscape framed by the boundaries of The Warehouse,” says Loewen. “Walls, columns, windows and the audience themselves provide borders for the interplay of foreground and background, one of the central concepts of visual art.”
This performance marks the fourth collaboration with Valenza, following October’s Acts of Discovery. Performers (at press time) include Katelyn Altmann, Ben Follensbee, Caitlyn Grubich, Tori Isaacs, Amanda Laabs, Danielle Lohuis, Annie Peterson, Maggie Seer, Nicole Spence, Elisabeth Roskopf, Dan Schuchart, and Jimmi Weyneth.
Making/Unmaking and its related outreach program is funded in part by grants from the Milwaukee Arts Board and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin, The Herzfeld Foundation and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Gerda A. Debelak Fund.
About The Warehouse
The Warehouse is a 4,000 SF exhibition space on the ground floor of a large five-story former factory and warehouse built in 1924 in Milwaukee’s Design District, part of the newly designated West St. Paul Avenue Industrial Historical District. LED lighting and display walls have been added to the renovated space, which retains elements of the building’s industrial past, such as concrete columns and floors. The Warehouse mounts curated exhibits of artists from its permanent collection and other sources.
