Special Exhibits
Trivial Pursuit: A 50-State Adventure
February 1
Trivial Pursuit: A 50-State Adventure will be featured at the Betty Brinn Museum beginning February 1. This popular exhibit invites kids on a pretend visit to each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, including experiences at historic sites, tourist destinations, arts and sports venues, and family attractions. Activities, photos and trivia highlight U.S. geography, history and culture, and include a pedal-powered Mississippi riverboat, a hike to Old Faithful, a baseball game at Fenway Park and more. A Trivial Pursuit game component offers individual and family play opportunities using fun facts about geography, history, the arts, literature, science, nature, sports and leisure. The whole family will discover something new about our country as they play together.

New Home Town Exhibit
- Innovations Inc. presented by Brady Corporation
The Museum has a new pretend business in its Home Town exhibit: Innovations Inc. presented by Brady Corporation. The exhibit offers a pretend research and development company setting with activities that build problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Children can learn about advances in science, engineering and other fields that are improving how we live, and consider new solutions to address real-world challenges.

Neighborhood Night
Jan. 17, Feb. 21, Mar. 21 and April 18: 5-8 p.m.
Enjoy free admission from 5-8 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month, plus special workshops offered in the Museum’s Be A Maker space. Neighborhood Night is presented by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation with additional support provided by the Joy Global Foundation, the Milwaukee Public Schools Community Partnership Grant and US Bank, and media sponsor FOX6. January 27
On Sunday, January 27, Museum members receive free reciprocal admission at these participating organizations: Charles Allis Art Museum, Grohmann Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Public Museum, Pabst Mansion and Villa Terrace Art Museum. Patrons can show their membership card at the admissions desk at each venue to receive free admission for the two adults and number of children listed on the card. Please check each venue for hours of operation and visitor information.
Sendik’s Day
April 27, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Starting April 6, shoppers can visit a Sendik’s Food Market and purchase select products, then show their receipt at the Museum on April 27 to receive one FREE admission per product. On Sendik’s Day, visitors to the Museum can explore fun, hands-on exhibits like the pretend Sendik’s Food Market in Home Town, Pocket Park, Science CITY and Word Headquarters and participate in project-based learning activities in the Be A Maker space. Weekly Programs
Birth through age 5 are critical years in a child’s development. In addition to special programs throughout the year, the Betty Brinn Museum’s weekly programs promote early learning while families have fun together. Space is limited. Visit bbcmkids.org for additional information.
Tot Time: Recommended for children ages 1-3
Every Thursday, 10:30-11 a.m.
Tot Time features songs, stories, games and other activities for the Museum’s youngest visitors.
Pint-Size Science: Recommended for children ages 2-5
January 16 & 30, February 6 & 20, March 6 & 20, April 10 & 24: 10:30-11 a.m.
From the kitchen to the playground – and even in the car – science is everywhere. This facilitated program features hands-on science discoveries through stories, songs and experiments.
Our Five Senses: Recommended for children of all ages
January 11, February 8, March 15, April 12: 10:30-11 a.m.
Children participate in educational activities that highlight how we use our senses – sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing – to understand the world around us.
Environmental Explores: Recommended for children age 3 and older
January 8 & 22, February 12 & 26, March 12 & 26, April 2 & 16: 10:30-11 a.m.
Children participate in hands-on activities to explore nature and learn how to care for the Earth. This program is held in the Museum’s Be A Maker (BAM) space and in the BAM Urban Garden, weather-permitting.
RIGAMAJIG©: Recommended for children age 3 and older
January 8 & 22, February 12 & 26, March 12 & 26, April 2 & 16: 10:30-11 a.m.
RIGAMAJIG is a large-scale building kit that helps children develop their problem-solving skills, cognitive thinking and imagination through hands-on open-ended play.
Maker Programs
The Museum’s Be A Maker (BAM) space is a communal workshop that invites families and groups to explore science, technology, engineering, arts/design and math by working on a broad range of do-it-yourself projects that help children build new skills, collaborate and share their accomplishments. Outfitted with real tools, materials and technologies, BAM offers self-directed activities and workshops facilitated by Museum staff and guest makers. Be A Maker: Open Making
Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-noon & 2-4 p.m., and Saturday 2-4 p.m.
The Museum’s Be A Maker (BAM) space offers tools, equipment and materials that make it fun to tinker and create. Each month, BAM changes its focus to provide family-friendly projects and activities that promote learning by doing.
Be A Maker: Art Studio
January 19, February 16, March 16, April 20, May 18: 2-4 p.m.
The Art Studio inspires young artists with opportunities to create using dry, wet, collage, and textured mediums. Recommended for children ages 4 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Be A Maker: LED Card Making Workshop
January 21, 12-2 p.m.
Workshop participants will learn the basics of LED technology and make one-of-a-kind artwork. Museum admission is not included in the workshop fee. Price: $5 for Museum members and $8 for non-members
Scout Programs
The Betty Brinn Museum offers many guided programs that help Girl Scouts meet STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/design and math) badge requirements. Private troop workshops and events are also available for both Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups. Visit bbcmkids.org/girl-scouts/ for group reservation and workshop registration information.
Daisy Badge Workshop – Board Game Design Challenge
January 19, 12:30-2 p.m.
Daisy Scouts will design and play their own board game. Participants will receive a Betty Brinn Museum patch and certificate. Museum admission is not included in workshop fee. Price: $15 per Scout
Daisy Badge Workshop – What Robots Do, How Robots Move, and Design a Robot
February 9, 12:30-2 p.m.
Daisy Scouts will earn all 3 of their Robotics badges by learning how we use technology and will have the opportunity to solve problems by building and designing their own robots. Participants will receive a Betty Brinn Museum patch and certificate. Museum admission is not included in workshop fee. Price: $15 per Scout
Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts Under Night
March 22, 6-9 p.m.
Girl Scouts will work on requirements for the Daisy Model Car Design Challenge Badge or Brownie Race Car Design Challenge Badge. Scouts can also explore Museum exhibits and enjoy a pizza dinner. Pre-registration is required. An adult must accompany registered Scouts and may accompany up to 5 Scouts. Price: $25 per child / $10 per adult
