Tony Evers Wastes No Time Implementing Pro-Abortion Agenda

Taps Planned Parenthood of WI CEO as Key Health Advisor

By - Nov 29th, 2018 10:15 am

Madison, WI — Today, State Senator David Craig (R-Town of Vernon) responded to Governor-elect Tony Evers’ appointment of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin CEO, Tanya Atkinson, to his health policy advisory council determining the new administration’s posture on healthcare and abortion over the next four years.

“Blink and you missed it, but Tony Evers just slipped a top abortion activist onto his transition team. The appointment of Planned Parenthood of WI’s CEO shows Evers’ promotion of the pro-abortion agenda and his commitment to making it a key part of his administration,” said Senator Craig. “It’s disturbing to see that Evers is already surrounding himself with liberal, Madison special interests so out of step with the rest of the state.”

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider executing 321,384 abortions last year according to their most recent report. Abortions represent their most expensive and lucrative procedure. The organization ended last fiscal year with net assets in excess of $1.6 billion.

“Planned Parenthood masquerades as a healthcare provider while funding their activities through taxpayer subsidies and the killing of pre-born babies. Now, thanks to Tony Evers, their activists will have a seat at the table directing state policy,” said Senator Craig. “This appointment sends Wisconsinites a message that they should not be surprised if Evers’ first budget includes abortion funding by taxpayers or repeal of measures protecting the unborn.”

Recent polling by Politico showed only 36% percent of Americans support the public funding of abortions. Last session, Republicans enacted a law to prevent the state health plans from covering abortion services. Republicans still maintain the majorities in both the state senate and state assembly however, budget proposals and many functions of state government originate with the governor.

“I will strongly oppose any and all efforts to force taxpayers to fund Planned Parenthood and will vigorously defend against any attempts to dismantle protections for the unborn,” added Senator Craig.

Senator Craig represents the 28th Senate District which includes parts of Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, and Walworth counties.

Senator Craig Statement on Governor Evers’ Shelter-in-place Order

Madison, WI — Today, State Senator David Craig (R-Town of Vernon) released the following statement relating to Governor Tony Evers’ Shelter-in-Place Order: “A decision of such magnitude like a ‘shelter-in-place’ order, regardless of what the government calls it, should only be established through the surety and specificity of an act of the legislature because of its extreme effects on Wisconsin families and businesses. Such action could stem the tide of confusion and anxiety being experienced by employers and employees all across the state. “Further, Governor Evers needs to articulate the specific information he received which caused contradiction between his Friday statement ‘I believe that we’ll be able to avoid [a shelter-in-place order]’ and today’s statement that he will make such an order effective tomorrow. “Additionally, last week I requested the Governor and Attorney General provide details as to how the government’s actions abide by the constitutional strict scrutiny that is required. Their continued silence on these issues is unacceptable given the precipitously negative impacts on civil rights and the economy. “Because of the Governor’s extreme step, I believe the legislature should consider the following protections for Wisconsin citizens: Require legislative approval of any statewide “shelter-in-place” order for reasons of pandemic or infectious disease Require legislative passive review of any “Emergency Declaration” after 30 days, with affirmative approval needed for a state of emergency lasting longer than 60 days Require a written report detailing the satisfaction of strict scrutiny concerns be given to the legislature prior to a ban of gatherings of 50 or fewer is to be in effect Require an immediate report to the legislature of arrests for mass gathering violations “The constitution was not designed to be disregarded in a time of crisis, in fact, it was specifically designed to be most valuable and applicable during times of crisis when liberties are most at risk.”

Sen. Craig Responds to Gov. Evers’ State of the State Address

“Republican legislative majorities will continue to take a commonsense approach and govern responsibly by limiting government overreach while supporting a free-market economy, which is the very recipe that has led to one of the most prosperous decades in state history.”

Senator Craig is a bit deceptive about the Politico polls. It was taken during the 2016 presidential election. A majority of those polled (by 58–36) opposed overturning the Hyde Amendment (banning Medicaid funding of abortion), but a majority also supported public funding of Planned Parenthood (by 58-37).

“It’s disturbing to see that Evers is already surrounding himself with liberal, Madison special interests so out of step with the rest of the state.” This is actually a false theory regarding who is out of step with the rest of the state. We recently saw the evidence, once again, of how Republicans steal elections. Democrats won 53% of the votes in the legislature but won 36% of the seats. Republicans won 45% of the votes and hold 64% of the seats. No, Sen. Craig, you and your party secured your election in the 2010 district maps through secret and highly partisan gerrymandering. The Republicans continue to grab all the power by any means possible including voter suppression and by ignoring the will of the voters.
