JULY JOBS: Wisconsin Adds 9,100 Private Sector Jobs, Unemployment Remains Below 3.0% for a Record Six Straight Months
Wisconsin added 9,100 private-sector jobs from June 2018 to July 2018, and 2,500 manufacturing jobs.
GREEN BAY – Wisconsin added 9,100 private sector jobs in July, and the state’s unemployment rate remained below 3.0 percent for a record six straight months, according to information released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD). Governor Scott Walker visited Breakthrough Fuel in Green Bay today to discuss Wisconsin’s thriving economy and booming job growth following the release of jobs data.
“Our unemployment rate has been below 3.0 percent for a record six straight months and job creation continues to be strong with 9,100 private sector jobs created in July,” Governor Walker said. “Breakthrough Fuel here in Green Bay is an excellent example of our economic success, having grown from a single employee a decade ago to more than 85 employees today. Wisconsin’s future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades.”
Breakthrough Fuels was established in Green Bay in 2004. The company creates transportation and supply chain strategies for shippers in an effort to help companies save on fuel to ship products around the world.
- Wisconsin’s July seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 2.9 percent represents the 6th straight month that the state’s unemployment rate remained under 3 percent, a state record.
- Prior to 2018, the state’s unemployment rate was never below 3 percent.
- From July 2017 to July 2018, the state added a statistically significant 38,500 private -sector jobs and 21,300 manufacturing jobs.
- Wisconsin added 9,100 private-sector jobs from June 2018 to July 2018, and 2,500 manufacturing jobs.
- Wisconsin has added 21,300 manufacturing jobs from July 2017 to July 2018, 15,700 of which have been added in 2018 alone.
- The size of Wisconsin’s civilian labor force held steady from June to July at a record level.
- Wisconsin’s labor force participation rate of 68.9 percent held steady from June to July 2018, six percentage points higher than the national rate of 62.9 percent.
