Alderman Rainey targets lingering debris from accidents

“We need to do a better job of getting the debris hauled away."

By - Dec 15th, 2017 02:15 pm

In Milwaukee it is not at all unusual for glass, bumpers, and other debris left behind after a vehicle accident to linger for days on or near a roadway.

Alderman Khalif J. Rainey wants that current unsightly situation to change, and soon. “It (vehicle debris) can be strewn at an intersection for days, and it looks awful. We need to do a better job of getting the debris hauled away,” he said.

“We have been told by the Department of Public Works that there is no established system for Milwaukee Police to notify them when there is debris that needs to be cleared from an accident, and that is not acceptable and needs to change,” Alderman Rainey said.

Alderman Rainey is studying possible legislation that would require DPW and MPD to develop a notification system when there is accident-related debris that needs to be hauled away. Currently, citizens can call the City of Milwaukee Call Center at 414- 286-CITY (2489) to report accident debris.

“I urge citizens to call in accident debris as soon as they see it – 286-2489,” the alderman said.

This is an Alderman who does his job. I’m always impressed by what I read about his initiatives. I hope his energy and focus continue. I’m sure this is a job that can wear you down.

  2. DemCo says:

Thank you Alderman Rainey, this issue does need a solution. We have beautiful boulevards that look like heck with car parts strewn about for days/weeks. Check out the large SUV bumper laying near the SE corner of 27th and Lisbon, been there over two weeks! I use the the DPW electronic service request weekly for all sorts of things (love it!) and will start adding auto debris to my requests.
