Hunger Task Force to receive leftover dairy after local plant sudden closing.

By - Jan 15th, 2013 12:03 pm

Milwaukee (January 15, 2013)—Hunger Task Force received confirmation today that they will receive leftover dairy products that were going to be disposed of after the sudden closing of the Golden Guernsey dairy plant in Waukesha.

The plant was closed without notice on Tuesday, January 8. When it was brought to the attention of Hunger Task Force that the plant was still full of product, the agency took action. The Golden Guernsey product has been donated to Hunger Task Force and the process has begun to distribute the milk to areas of need all over the state.

“It’s really great to be able to make a call and let a pantry know they’ll have real milk to give a family or to a meal program telling them they can serve fresh milk with supper. With all of this dairy we are going to be able to reach out to communities all over the state and offer them something they don’t see very often. This is a good day,” reported Sherrie Tussler, Hunger Task Force Executive Director.

The milk deliveries will continue through the week and there is a call for help being put out to trucking companies that can spare a semi, straight truck or a driver for a day to help make the deliveries to areas that need help like Madison, Eau Claire, La Crosse and Green Bay.

Hunger Task Force believes that every person has a right to adequate food obtained with dignity. Hunger Task Force works to prevent hunger and malnutrition by providing food to people in need today and by promoting social policies to achieve a hunger free community tomorrow.
