U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin: “The American people deserve a full and functioning Supreme Court – not an empty seat on the highest court in the land.”
Senate Republicans require Republican President to do their job?
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin today released the following statement on the partisan obstruction of action on a U.S. Supreme Court nomination:
“It’s the constitutional duty of the President to select a Supreme Court nominee and the Senate has the responsibility to give that nominee fair consideration with a hearing and a vote.
“Our job is to fulfill our constitutional duties. Have Senate Republicans forgotten this? It appears the senior Senator from Wisconsin has. He suggested that Republicans would only do their job on a Supreme Court nomination if we had a Republican President. But since we don’t, they won’t.
“I would like to remind my colleague from Wisconsin that President Barack Obama was elected to a four-year term in 2012. The American people decided who our President is and according to the Constitution, the term President Obama earned has more than 300 days remaining.
“The American people deserve a full and functioning Supreme Court – not an empty seat on the highest court in the land. In the spirit of cooperation and bipartisanship, I call on Senator Ron Johnson to end his partisan obstruction and do his job.”
