Sen. Mark Spreitzer Celebrates New Democratic Leadership in State Capitol
BELOIT – State Senator Mark Spreitzer (D-Beloit) released the following statement celebrating last night’s historic election results, which secured a Democratic majority in the Wisconsin State Senate, a Democratic majority in the Wisconsin State Assembly, and the election of David Crowley as the next Governor of Wisconsin:
“Last night was a turning point for Wisconsin. For the second election cycle in a row, Wisconsin voters made it clear that they want a government that works for everyday people, not one that silences them or serves out-of-touch special interests.
“Under fairer maps, Wisconsinites turned out to reject division and demand real solutions to the challenges they face in checkout lines, at gas stations, and at doctor’s offices every day. For the last 16 years, working Wisconsin families were ignored in favor of reckless tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy. Our public schools were underfunded and commonsense priorities were pushed aside in favor of political scheming and power plays. That ends now.
“Wisconsin voters have chosen a new era of service and fairness, and Democrats are committed to rebuilding a fair playing field that lets every family have a real shot to get ahead.
“Our mandate is clear. In January, our Democratic majority is ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work. We are focused on lowering the cost of living, protecting consumers, fully funding our public schools, ensuring that an honest day’s work pays a living wage, and strengthening essential public services from Beloit to Bayfield, La Crosse to Sheboygan, and everywhere in between.
“I am profoundly grateful to the voters of the 15th State Senate District and to people all across Wisconsin who believed a better, more responsive state government was possible. I can’t wait to get to work together.”
