Packers, NFL Foundation, LISC Grassroots Field Grant Program Award $100,000 to Milwaukee to Support Development of Community Football Field
Grant will fund installation of a natural grass field at King Park in Milwaukee, expanding access to safe, high-quality recreation spaces
The Green Bay Packers, in partnership with the NFL Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), have awarded a $100,000 grant through the LISC Grassroots Field Grant Program to the Milwaukee Parks Foundation to support the installation of a natural grass field at King Park in Milwaukee, Wis.
“We are proud to award this grant in partnership with the NFL Foundation and LISC,” said Packers President and CEO Ed Policy. “Enhancing local recreation spaces strengthens our communities and offers opportunities for athletes and sports fans of all ages and ability levels to come together and enjoy the benefits of outdoor space.”
The grant awarded to Milwaukee will support renovations on the existing multi-use athletic field in the southwest corner of King Park, a 21-acre public park owned and managed by Milwaukee County Parks. The upgraded field will continue to support high school football practices, flag football and athletic training. Milwaukee Academy of Science, a nearby school, has committed to using the field for football in the fall and track in the spring. By providing a safe, reliable playing surface, the project will also create new opportunities for seasonal clinics, community events and year-round youth engagement.
Founded in 2019, the Milwaukee Parks Foundation (MPF) is an independent nonprofit that partners closely with Milwaukee County Parks to build philanthropic and community support for the park system. Guided by a mission to collectively steward a thriving park system and a vision of safe, vibrant parks that benefit all, MPF supports the creation of inclusive public spaces that reflect the needs of Milwaukee’s diverse communities.
The NFL Foundation and LISC have partnered for nearly three decades to help young people stay active and healthy by creating safe, accessible places to play through the development of community football fields. Since the program’s inception, more than $70 million has been distributed to community organizations and schools across the country, resulting in the construction or refurbishment of nearly 500 fields nationwide.
“For nearly 30 years, the NFL Foundation and LISC have helped expand access to safe, high-quality places for young people to play, grow and connect,” said Alexia Gallagher, NFL Vice President of Philanthropy and Executive Director of the NFL Foundation. “Through the Grassroots Field Grant Program, we are proud to support local leaders who are creating healthier communities and opening more pathways for youth to experience the benefits of football.”
LISC identifies local nonprofit and community-based agencies interested in building or refurbishing football fields in schools and neighborhood parks. Through the program, local agencies receive the necessary financing and technical assistance to improve the quality and safety of fields in their communities. The agencies oversee the construction, maintenance and programming for each field.
