WMSE hosted its 5th Annual Backyard BBQ Saturday night and they didn’t disappoint. It was an evening filled with entertainment, food, fun and games. This family friendly event had a little something for everyone.

Milwaukee’s own The Mike Benign Compulsion, and folk rock band Greatest Lakes kicked off the event. Cowpunk/bluegrass band Split Lip Rayfield took to the stage, jamming out on their homemade gas tank bass. Bluesy South Dakota band Indigenous kept the party going with front man Mato Nanji‘s smooth vocals. Headlining the event was Nashville natives Los Straitjackets, known for their outrageous luche libre masks and surf-style instrumentals.

Food trucks offered up a wide variety of choices, including shrimp tacos, gourmet pulled pork sandwiches and Meat on the Street’s famous chicken or beef Sriracha topped skewers. All could be washed down with a local Hop Happy India Pale Ale from Milwaukee Brewing Company.

The Milwaukee Film Festival had a team on hand to distribute their just released (and highly anticipated) 2014 festival guide.

As summer comes to a close, this one last shindig served as a wonderful way for general manager Tom Crawford and the rest of the WMSE team to thank their many listeners, sponsors and contributors.
