(February 25, 2015 – Milwaukee, Wis.) Journey from the dark to the light with PM in this multimedia event. Featuring compositions such as Tenebrae and Thaw, and the Hearing Voices vocal ensemble, PM is thrilled to present the world première of 23-year old Juilliard composer Molly Joyce’s Luminescence, commissioned by PM’s Commission Club at Equinox. Joyce will be in Milwaukee for short residency to work with the PM ensemble, culminating in a pre-concert talk and the Equinox concert. Joyce states Luminescence “is inspired by the idea of finding light in the world and in our lives in unexpected places. It is also inspired by a trip I took to Tanzania this past summer, during which I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. During the climb, I constantly “craved” light as I knew it would make me warmer and also mean a new day, new hike, etc. I therefore thought a lot about the idea that we all sort of “crave” light in our lives in some form, either perhaps physical light or emotionally, etc.”

Also featuring art installations by UWM faculty artists Dean Valadez, Brooke Thiele and local visual artist Shannon Molter, PM artistic director Kevin Stalheim reflects, “Concerts can almost take on a life of their own and Equinox is turning out to be extremely special for me. The concert will go from darkness, death, and winter to hope and light and spring.  The music starts with the mournful and aching Tenebrae by Golijov and moves to the deeply meditative The Light Within by John Luther Adams.  Then to the challenge and hope of change in Thaw by Thomson, to a high energy world premiere by Molly Joyce and two vibrant and wild Springs by Chernin and Piazolla. It should be quite a journey.” (Program subject to change.)
