City Plan Commission to Discuss Data Center Moratorium on Monday
On Monday, September 28, the City Plan Commission will discuss file #251924 authored by Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic. The legislation would temporarily pause the establishment and development of data centers in Milwaukee for one year or until the zoning code is amended to define and regulate data centers. The City Plan Commission meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in room 301-B, 3rd Floor, City Hall, 200 E. Wells St. File #251924 is item six on the agenda and is scheduled to be heard no earlier than 2:10 p.m. Public comments will be taken during the meeting.
“Data centers pose new and unique challenges to communities, including impacts to the environment, public health, and general welfare,” said Alderwoman Dimitrijevic. “Our current zoning code does not specifically regulate land use for data centers, and as we grapple with this complex topic, we need to pause the process. If and when data centers come to Milwaukee, it must be with thorough, thoughtful, and community-centric regulations in place.”
Pending the action of the City Plan Commission, file #251924 could be eligible to be scheduled at the October 6 Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee meeting.
