Guardian Fine Art Services is a new resource for the Milwaukee art community. Founders John Shannon and Jan Serr, whose art collection outgrew their home, were looking for a space to safely store their art and discovered there was no art storage warehouse in the city, with the closest being 90 miles away in Chicago. This sparked a five-year journey to create Milwaukee’s only art storage warehouse, called Guardian Fine Art Services, and located in the Design District in the Menomonee Valley.

Guardian provides a safe and stable place for short and long-term storage. The building conforms to all environmental and security standards recommended by museums and insurance companies. All employees are experienced and educated professionals who have worked for a wide variety of museums and galleries.

Clients of Guardian include a wide variety of artists, collectors and organizations, whether they need help with one, 100 or 1,000 art works. Guardian’s experts help to store, hang, transport and manage the most prized assets of art lovers and collectors. Guardian has also created an exhibition space where art is curated and displayed. And now the owners of Guardian Fine Art Services have invited Urban Milwaukee members to a behind-the-scenes tour of this unique facility and to also view their current exhibition, On Belonging.

Urban Milwaukee members are invited to join us on Wednesday, March 27th at 4:45 p.m. There will be an introductory talk with John Shannon, outlining how he conceived the idea of Guardian, followed by tours of the building, and finally a look at the exhibition in The Warehouse MKE, On Belonging, a collaboration between artists Lois Bielefeld and Nirmal Raja.

This tour is free for Urban Milwaukee members, but an RSVP is required as space is limited. You may reserve up to two spots on the tour.
