Yet another brunch restaurant has opened in Milwaukee, this time in Brewer’s Hill. But this one has a pretty unique menu, and is also a tavern.

Uncle Wolfie’s Breakfast Tavern (234 E. Vine St.) opened to the public today, December 17. The breakfast and lunch restaurant is owned by husband-and-wife team, Wolfgang and Whitney Schaefer. The opening date was announced via Uncle Wolfie’s Facebook page on December 7. “We are so happy, elated really, to let you know our doors will be open to the public starting December 17th,” the post reads. “We can not wait to welcome you into the space. It’s been a beautiful effort by so many amazing folks, we are so thankful.”

The menu contains some simple classics, such as a gluten-free fresh fruit parfait served with seasonal fruit, honey nut granola and greek yogurt ($7) or a house salad ($8). However, most of the dishes offer at least one twist on a breakfast or lunch favorite. For starters, there’s the PB&J stuffed french toast with challah, peanut butter cream cheese and blackberry gastrique ($10). The BELCH sandwich contains bacon, eggs, lettuce tomato, cheddar and sambal aioli on sourdough, served with a choice of potatoes ($12).

On the lunch side, the Orange and Blue Salad is served with orange supremes, blue cheese, candied almonds, raspberry balsamic, pickled red onion field greens and a white balsamic vinaigrette ($11). The Millee Cheese Steak offers coffee rubbed chuck, garlic pickled jalapenos and onions, beer cheese sauce and mayo on a hoagie ($12). Both burgers on the menu, the hamburger with cheese ($12) and Breaky Burger ($14), sub out normal patties with an American cheese stuffed one-third pound burger.

As for drinks, well, the new restaurant’s Facebook page offers this slogan: “Beer goes with breakfast.” Cocktails will also be served. Or you can go the other way with a variety of espresso-based drinks.

The tavern has been in the works for a few years. The Schaefers first bought the building in 2015, and began remodeling a year later. The building also houses Orange and Blue Co., a lifestyle shop owned by Whitney Schaefer. The business provides a “curated mix of vintage and modern home goods and accessories,” according to its website.

Hours of operation for Uncle Wolfie’s Breakfast Tavern are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
