Where do you work and what makes your role awesome?

I’m the Communications & Design Specialist at NEWaukee. I love that we are a really small, close-knit team. Almost every day is different, so there are always new challenges to solve. I also have a lot of creative autonomy, which is nice.

How long have you lived in Milwaukee and what brought you here?

I moved to Milwaukee in 2012 to go to college at UWM.

What do you love most about Milwaukee?

There are so many experiences to be a part of year-round – my favorites include Gallery Night, the Milwaukee Film Festival, Pridefest, and of course NEWaukee’s YPWeek and Night Markets. It’s really easy to meet new people and make new friends.

What is something that is missing from our community that you would love to see implemented?

I think more of the city could be pedestrian-friendly. It can still be difficult to move around the city without having a car. In general, I think people want more transit options – as was evidenced by the popularity of the Bird scooters (before they were removed.) The arrival of the streetcar is a good start, but there is still a lot of work to be done.

What local restaurant is at the top of your list?

My favorite place to grab pizza in the city is Riverwest Pizza. They have really unique pizzas, awesome apps (try the fried brussel sprouts!), and a great beer selection. Plus, the staff is super chill and friendly.

What is your favorite Milwaukee tradition?

My favorite Milwaukee tradition is Pridefest Milwaukee! It is one of the events I look forward to every year. The whole weekend is really fun and inclusive. Plus, it puts a spotlight on the amazing local drag talent we have here in Milwaukee.

What neighborhood do you live in and why do you love it?

My boyfriend and I live in the Lower East Side. I love that we’re so close to everything – in the summer, we walk everywhere. We tend to walk to Brady Street a lot, since there are a bunch of great restaurants like La Masa, Balzac, and Thainamite.
