Thurman’s 15 is Always Dead
Metaphorically speaking only. The name celebrates the deceased Yankee, the atmosphere is heavy on the Grateful Dead, and the cozy tavern can get pretty lively.

I haven’t been to Thurman’s recently (although I walk my large white German Shepherd, Kalyna, past there quite often and anyone who’s standing around outside always wants to pet her for luck), but I do remember being their some years ago when I saw a guy spill his 150-proof rum on one of the wooden tables and then proceed to light it (of course it became enflamed, and I think he was trying to prove some point, although I’m not certain what it was). However no one seemed upset and acted as if this were normal. Thanks for the great article, Michael Horne!
The first time I drank a Weiss beer was at Zum Zeppel.
