I like the Riverwest Public House, especially for their forums, which are unique. One night I went to a forum on homelessness there that had a panel of former homeless people onstage, including a young gay guy who had been thrown out of his parental home for being gay and who had to survive by having sex with older men in order to get a place to stay for a night or two, and a woman who was a severe alcoholic and turned to prostitution when she suddenly became homeless, buying a large bottle of whiskey first thing each morning to help her get through the day before she could buy some drugs. Much better than a dry lecture with statistics we can’t really grasp, right? Thanks for this article, Michael Horne, and thanks to The Public House for caring so much about Riverwest.

Hey Michael, I just replaced that damn window on the East side. If we owned the building (we because I’m lifetime member #77) I am sure we would replaced the rest and get rid of the ugly plywood!

Thanks for the right up. Come to the park tomorrow night and check out the line for May Day registration!
