Saturday marked the 14th annual Milwaukee River Challenge, where competitors from all over the Midwest raced along the three mile course. This year, over 900 participants took to the Menomonee and Milwaukee rivers in four and eight-oared boats, as spectators watched from the riverwalk and countless bridges throughout the downtown area.

There were four launches including a Women’s 4+, Men’s 8+, Women’s 8+ and Men’s 4+, each launch having an open and a junior’s team. The boats began to launch at 8:30am on the Menomonee River, at 25th and Canal streets. Preferred viewing areas could also be found behind the Harley Davidson Museum riverwalk or at the races culmination and celebration site, Schlitz Park.

Teams from the University of Wisconsin finished in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Women’s Open 8+ event. The Milwaukee School of Engineering won the Men’s Open 8+, beating Purdue University by 25 seconds, with a time of 15:31 minutes.
