Holler House seems very historic (including the cigar box!). Thanks for these wonderful bar reviews – after reading each one I feel driven to seek out bars I’ve never seen in Milwaukee!
great stuff about holler house it’s cool and old place may be the oldest in that state not the nation. In 1892 in Denver co at the Denver athletic club there is a bowling alley est 1892. My calculations are right it’s older then holler house. Go to Denver athletic club on you tube. Video is Denver athletic club 125 years in the making you will see the first bowling alley that dates back to 1892. We were the oldest sanctioned till the fire of 1940s that burned down the building. But lanes remained in tact. Which now makes us the oldest operating lanes west of missippi river. You want pictures let me know.
I’m surprised your story didn’t feature any of Marcy’s off color risqué stories. Perhaps she felt being just the 2 of you, you’d take it the wrong way. She’s Milwaukee’s best joke teller and the reason many people come back. In her late 80’s she used to wear sweat shirt that proclaimed, “THEY SAY THAT SEX WITH A YOUNGER MAN CAN KILL YOU!” and then in smaller print underneath, “BUT IF HE DIES, HE DIES”. She’s one in a million.
