The circus rolls into Milwaukee
The Tripoli Shrine Circus returns to Milwaukee for a weekend of thrilling performances at the U.S. Cellular Arena. TCD attended Friday's festivities.
Making sure this show runs smooth is Ringmistress Audrey Michelle. Ms. Michelle is one of only a few women in the world taking on the role of ringmaster. She was born into the circus world, first performing with her parents in their handbalancing act at the age of six. Later roles in the circus for her included training animals, performing with elephants and being an aerialist before becoming the emcee of one of the largest traveling circus companies in the world.
Numerous stage hands work non-stop in changing over each ring to its next performance setup. Ropes and wires fill the center of the arena and the crew must perform a delicate dance of balance between the chaos of three stages. They very successfully changeover each set with the greatest of ease.
Bo the Elephant clearly stole the show and the hearts of the audience. Some even gave a standing ovation for the gracefulness and talent of this nearly six ton animal.
This year’s circus is interactive with opportunities to meet the stars of the show, camel and pony rides, face painting, and the chance to purchase all those little cute light-up toys and gadgets for the little ones. Come early or stay late to take part in these activities.
The Tripoli Shrine Circus runs February 21-24 at the U.S. Cellular Arena. For more information and to purchase tickets visit milwaukeecircus.com or call 1-800-745-3000.
