Thousands of people packed downtown streets for a good cause on Saturday.

The 35th annual Briggs & Al’s Run & Walk for Children’s Hospital drew thousands of people to downtown Milwaukee on Saturday morning. The event draws its name from sponsor Briggs & Stratton and event founder and Marquette University coaching legend Al McGuire. In 2011, there were a reported 12,800 participants, and with the nice weather on Saturday, it felt like that total could have easily been surpassed. Over its 35 years the event has raised over $13 million dollars.

Each year two routes are available for participants, a 5-mile course that heads up Prospect Ave and a 3-mile course that is largely on Wisconsin Ave.  Both routes start at 12th St and Wisconsin Ave on the Marquette University campus and end at Henry Maier Festival Park.

Commonly referred to as simply “Al’s Run”, the event showcases how public streets can easily be temporarily transformed into fun and exciting places.
