OVERVIEW

ThirdCoast Digest, Milwaukee’s online portal for arts, culture, news, events and community, is accepting applications for an arts internship for fall 2012. Get hands-on experience in the rapidly changing landscape of online publishing and journalism at a dynamic and growing web venture.

DESCRIPTION

The TCD arts intern will work a minimum of 10 hours a week, including some hours in the office and some from home or other remote locations, for a term of 10-12 weeks.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Updating and maintaining calendars
  • Helping the arts editor to track events and coverage
  • Attending events and writing reviews
  • Interviewing arts personalities and writing feature stories
  • Generating story ideas
  • Editing arts-related copy and gathering, sizing and cropping images
  • Assisting with in-house social media efforts to drive traffic to TCD.

Senior editor Tom Strini mentors arts interns and works closely with them.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion for the arts and for writing
  • Some knowledge and background in any or all of the arts
  • Desire to learn to write and edit quickly and meet deadlines
  • Computer and internet literacy

COMPENSATION

This internship is unpaid, but we offer college credit to enrolled students, depending on the requirements of your program. However, you need not be enrolled in school to intern at TCD.
