Mary Katrantzou’s Collection from London Fashion Week
We feel it’s important to give our readers a window to the world. This week has been enlightenment at London Fashion Week with new designs for fall 2012. These are trends and looks (or variations of) that you can look for online and in stores in about 6 months.
Mary Katrantzou, a British fashion designer, is known for her inventive, fun looks. Her prints are very high quality, fun household objects like clothes hangers, spoons and embroidered yellow pencils. Peplums (short flared ruffles attached at the waist) are huge this coming season (including spring) and she shows them with aplomb.
Her tulip shaped skirts and dresses are floating, swirls of beauty that are probably better suited for Midwest summers than falls (maybe Indian summer), but are beautiful nonetheless.
Her heavy silk dresses are absolutely stunning with their clean shapes and those fun yet carefully created prints. Of course, her prints don’t stop at household items, but include beautiful, detailed florals that delight the eye.
Katrantzou’s sweater dresses are a sight to behold. They’re not your average chunky sweater dress but a finely knit piece of art. Even on her sweater dresses, the prints are incredible. There are no embroidered holiday figures here! Some of the dresses have lace detailing on them which adds another element of texture and interest.
