The City of Milwaukee celebrates 166th birthday

By - Feb 2nd, 2012 04:00 am

The Milwaukee Press Club marked the city’s 166th birthday with a party at the historic Grand Exchange Room in the Mackie Building on Tuesday evening, right down to a birthday cake and Mayor Tom Barrett leading the crowd in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday.”

The event also gave the MPC a chance to honor some of those gathered and other figures operating in Milwaukee as they declared this the year of the “Big League City.” MVP nominees were voted on during a month-long online contest and the awards were handed out in various categories. The winners were: Gary Witt of the Pabst Theater Foundation (Arts), Richard Bub, of Graef-USA, Inc. (Business), VISIT Milwaukee (Civic), Henry Tyson of St. Marcus School (Education), Alderman Willie Hines (Elected Official), Joe Bartolotta (Hospitality), Mike Gousha (Media), Danae Davis of PEARLS for Teen Girls (Philanthropy), Kathleen Cullen of Divine Savior Holy Angels (Religion), Bo Ryan of UW’s Basketball program (College Sports), and Aaron Rodgers (Pro Sports).
