Global Union 2011 in Humboldt Park

On a quiet hill in Bay View, Alverno Presents brought together two days of World music for Global Union. The festival brought in droves of people looking to soak up the last few rays of summer in a part of the world that gets four good months at best.

Each year is unique, and while many attendees may not have heard of the headlining acts, they certainly feel the universal need to shake and shimmer.

Saturday welcomed acts like Congolese musician Diblo Dibala, the collective of DJs, visual artists, and musicians known as Bomba Estereo, and the truth-in-advertising bombastic gypsy music sound of Kultur Shock.

Sunday brought the large-scale Colombian funk of Sergent Garcia, the surprisingly mobile bruskers lead by Marco Calliari (who took a victory lap around the grounds while continuing to play), and the always game Blitz the Ambassador — who didn’t let the afternoon rain damper the day.

We brought our booth to witness the action, and set the lens of Brian Jacobson and Lacy Landre on the musical acts and happy audience members for a photo gallery.  You can see the results below, or even look for you and your friends at our flickr account linked here.
