Low Expectations

By - Jun 11th, 2011 04:00 am

This is gonna be another quick one kids, cuz life is trying to kill me.

This thing, this elpee named What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? is being hyped in the UK (hard to believe, I know) as THE RETURN OF THE GREAT ROCK GUITAR BAND RECORD, or something like that. The UK hasn’t had a rock band come along and set fire to London clubs since The Libertines, and that was quite awhile ago, so yeah, EVERYONE WANTS THIS TO HAPPEN.

But it ain’t gonna happen. Well, maybe it will, but it won’t be the Return Of The Libertines. People in general settle for mediocrity, and The Vaccines, they’ve got a batch o’ songs here that plop themselves right down in the middle of the room and do nothing. They try — “Wreckin’ Bar” (Ra Ra Ra) opens up the disc with all the energy they can muster, with a rant n’ chant chorus that scream THIS IS OUR “HEY, HO, LET’S GO,” PLEASE PLAY THIS AT YER NEXT SPORTING EVENT.

The record drags on and on (and on) from there, as if they spent themselves immediately on the first track and just couldn’t catch their breath anywhere in the following 11 tracks. That’s right, there are twelve lethargic rock products here to endure, none of which are worth yer time.
