Racine Theatre Guild: Auditions for Fall season

The Racine Theatre Guild is holding auditions on June 6 and 7 for Alan Ayckbourn’s Comic Potential, a winner of London’s Olivier Award for Best Comedy. The show launches RTG’s fall season, with performances on the three weekends from September 9-25.

Set in the not-too-distant future, Comic Potential begins in a TV studio, where a soap opera is being filmed with robot actors. One of the “actoids,” Jacie, appears to be malfunctioning, because she’s revealing a sense of humor and other human qualities. An aspiring (human) writer, Adam, recognizes her creativity and wants to build a series around her. The studio, owned by Adam’s uncle, will not hear of it. Adam’s growing affection for the charming robot adds complications and laughs.
There are five roles for adult (18+) women and five for adult men of various ages. Every role is open. Auditions consist of cold readings from the script. Scripts are available in advance and may be checked out of the box office with payment of a refundable deposit.
Anyone interested in auditioning should report at 7 p.m. on either Monday, June 6, or Tuesday, June 7, entering through the Guild’s lobby doors. Appointments are not being taken. For more information, call the box office at 262-633-4218 between noon and 6 p.m. on weekdays. The Racine Theatre Guild is located at 2519 Northwestern Avenue, Racine.

Redline Milwaukee’s Recycled Runway Contest: Calling fashion designers and students

RedLine Milwaukee, Inc. is searching for 15 local fashion designers or fashion design students to compete in its Recycled Runway Design Contest, where art and social justice meets fashion. Contestants will create a fashion forward garment and accessories made out of recycled or re-purposed items for a great prize package. RedLine’s Third Annual Fashion Show is a fundraiser to support RedLine’s core programs including its socially relevant exhibition and education programs.

Construction of the garments will begin after June 1, 2011 and must be completed by July 29, 2011. Outfits will be modeled and showcased on the runway at RedLine’s Third Annual Fashion Show, September 23, 2011. Judging of the garments will take place the night of the fashion show by local fashion experts. Also new this year is RedLine’s Recycled Runway Fine Art Catalog, which will feature photographs of the fashions entered taken by RedLine Artist, Christopher McIntyre.  A photo of the designer and a very brief bio will also be included. Opportunities also exist for the entered garments to be showcased at Grand Avenue Mall, on TV and in print.
