But what if I want to hear music that’s NOT at Summerfest Saturday?
The consensus was in before the festival even started–this shaped up like one of the best Summerfests in a long while, thanks to appearances from DEVO, The Hold Steady, Modest Mouse, Joan Jett, Public Enemy, and pretty much the entire Cascio Groove Stage. But hey, even the most dedicated funnel cake connoisseur can get beaten down into exhaustion by the festival park. Oh me–is there anything going on Saturday that’s not Summerfest related? Don’t worry, dear music lover–we’ve got you covered.
The 3rd annual Pabst Street Party once again takes over Potter Street outside of Burnhearts with a day-long lineup featuring a little something for everyone–White Mystery, Def Harmonic, and Call Me Lightning grace the main stage before giving way to Chicago punk rock marching band Mucca Pazza, whose recent invasion of Stonefly Brewery was one of the craziest shows of 2010 so far. Since this one’s outside, who knows–they may come at us with their full 30-person lineup instead of the “scaled down” 18-person ensemble that delivered the goods on Center Street in May.If you can make it to the east side after witnessing the Street Party’s PBR box building competition, Y-Not III is capping off the night with an appearance from Bloomington, IN’s Waxeater, making what we believe is their third appearance in Milwaukee already this year. The hard-touring Jesus Lizard acolytes are promoting their just-released new disc Sleeper, released on Milwaukee-via-Chicago label Latest Flame Records. A “sleeper” it’s not–the record is a scorcher, burning through aluminum-guitar riffs and tightly syncopated rhythms. They’re joined on Saturday evening by locals Death Dream and “drunken noise-rock cover band” Ape in a Tank, as well as Detroit’s The Summer Pledge. Chances are you’ll be able to catch some fireworks between bands, if that’s, ya know, a thing that you care about. USA! USA! USA!
