Power of Three

Love Songs – Day 7

By - Feb 9th, 2010 08:52 am

Life can be dull and routine, but thank God for love — life’s spice that can be stabilizing in some ways and completely havoc-provoking in others. Contributors Ted Bobrow and Patti Wenzel know this well. Here, they share a few of their favorite picks.

TCD Business Manager, News & Views Reporter Patti Wenzel‘s Picks:

“Just the Way You Are” — Billy Joel: This was the first serious boyfriend kiss song. Enough said.

“I Need You To Turn To” — Elton John: Elton’s music is beautiful and partner Bernie Taupin’s lyrics are a love song to my husband, who is my protector and guardian angel.

“Stardust Melody” — Hoagy Carmichael: There are so many versions of this song, which is perfect for a slow, slow dance. If you want to listen to “Stardust” with the lyrics, try Nat King Cole (dad’s fav!) or Harry Connick, Jr.’s versions.

Picks from Ted Bobrow, TCD’s News & Views editor:

“Maybe I’m Amazed” — Paul McCartney and Wings: It’s my first choice. The tune and lyrics seem simple, even trite, but the song manages to convey the often contradictory nature of true love; sometimes scary, sometimes comforting, always intoxicating.

“Our House” — Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young: I have to go with this. Corny, I know, but love isn’t always about heat and passion. The best relationships are built on warmth, friendship and just being comfortable with each other. “Everything is easy ‘cause of you.” Talk about a fantasy!

“You Are So Beautiful to Me” — Joe Cocker: Despite Joe Cocker’s unfortunate name and the odd convulsions that accompany his singing, his “You Are So Beautiful to Me” also makes my list. True love is personal and completely, totally fulfilling. What else is there to say?
