Marla Campbell

Our series of artists and illustrators and former members of the Tastes Like Chicken hive mind continues with Marla Campbell and Erik Rose, former Milwaukeeans who now live in Chicago and teach at the Harrington College of Design.

Erik and Marla discuss their time at TLC, the joys of working on a highly collaborative, evolving publication and the challenges of an all-hands-on-deck model of getting a magazine out the door — selling ads, managing revenue and (gasp!) writing articles even if you think you’re just there for the drawing.

“There’s nothing better than doing a creative project with someone you respect,” Erik says about his collaboration with Justin Shady on their book, The Roberts (Erik also illustrated The Dude Abides: The Gospel According to the Coen Brothers, written by Cathleen Falsani).

Listen now! Backstage with Erik Rose and Marla Campbell. You can also subscribe to Backstage with Mark Metcalf through iTunes.

Next week, the series wraps up with Mark’s conversation with Justin Shady. Tune in!
