further details and terms
We posted last week that auditions are being held at the Milwaukee Theatre before the June 5-7 run of the national tour of The Wizard of Oz for additional munchkins in the form of local children. A closer look at the tour’s website revealed, however, some qualifiers that will be a boon for some local groups, but a limitation to individual parents that should be known. The tour, for the sake of clarity, is looking for 12 children (no more, no less) specifically who are part of an existing dance, choir, or theater group.
Here are the details again, with appropriate links for pre-registration and the rules intact:
WHAT: The National Tour of THE WIZARD OF OZ will be holding auditions for 12 local children between the ages of 8 to 13 (and under 5′ , or 100 lbs. due to costuming restrictions) to perform the roles of “munchkins” in this beloved Broadway show when it’s live on The Milwaukee Theatre stage for four shows this June.
WHO: Dozens of Milwaukee-area children will participate in the audition, which includes singing and dancing from specific numbers. All groups MUST be pre-registered. Visit www.wizardofozontour.com , then click on ‘Munchkinland’ for complete rules and regulations. Links on that page allows you to download the official audition form in Microsoft Word, and another PDF with the sheet music.
WHEN: Saturday, May 2. The competition will begin at 10 a.m. and a winner will be announced after all groups have auditioned.
WHERE: The Milwaukee Theatre, 500 W. Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee WI. Parking is available across from the Theatre in Wisconsin Center District lot, located off of Wells Street.
WHY: The National Tour of THE WIZARD OF OZ wants to provide local area children with real-life touring theatre experience. They will discover what it’s like to be part of a professional company, learn choreography by Leigh Constantine and be outfitted in the costume designs of Tim McQuillen-Wright.
