Madison – Today President Trump formally announced his decision to allow DACA the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to expire. DACA provides the children of immigrants legal protections to apply for work permits and temporary protection against deportation. The program helps to keep families together and ensures that Americans are not dragged from their homes and deported to a foreign country where they have no roots. Rep. Anderson released the following statement.

“It’s simple. This is a racist hate-filled decision by a president who is leaning into white nationalism. It’s a desperate attempt to raise his approval ratings in the face of his failed agenda. Ending DACA won’t make Americans safer. It won’t help our economy. It won’t stop terrorism. It won’t solve the opioid epidemic. It won’t spark wage growth. It won’t solve income inequality. It’s posturing aimed at appealing to Americans’ worst demons as opposed to their better angels. It’s repugnant, and I call on my fellow leaders to condemn it as such. Congress must act to protect DACA recipients from President Trump’s hateful actions.”
