Creches Around the World in 43 Days

Starts at 12:00 PM on December 12th, 2012

The School Sisters of St. Francis invite you to experience Alfons Gallery's new exhibit, which examines the global and cultural history of a time-honored tradition: the display of the Christmas crèche. It will present a variety of Nativity sets from across the globe, reflecting the influence of Christian missionary work and ranging from the traditional to the contemporary.

Nearly 100 crèches of varying sizes—some as small as one inch—will be on display. A highlight of the show will be the Nativity sets from local collectors, whose personal stories provide insight into this ongoing tradition. Additionally, Madonna and Child artwork from the School Sisters of St. Francis’ vast collection will present varied artistic views of the Holy Family within the Christmas narrative.
