WUWM 89.7 – Milwaukee’s NPR to launch political podcast “Swing State of the Union”
Milwaukee – On May 1, WUWM 89.7 – Milwaukee’s NPR will release its first digital first product, a weekly podcast called “Swing State of the Union” (SSOTU). The podcast will be hosted by WUWM’s “Lake Effect” producer Joy Powers and production assistant Sam Woods.
SSOTU is a 10-episode series that explores the political history of Wisconsin, the complex dynamics at play that make it a deeply purple state, and how what happens in Wisconsin mirrors and shapes national political discourse and policy.
“We’re very excited to be embarking on a project like this one. Joy and Sam are covering everything from what makes Wisconsin valuable in federal elections, to voter disenfranchisement, money in politics, political polarization, and more. Our team has learned a lot already and we can’t wait to share it with the public,” said Becky Mortensen, WUWM’s executive producer of “Lake Effect” and editor of the podcast.
The podcast will be released every Wednesday between May 1 and July 3 on all major podcast platforms. WUWM will air SSOTU on the radio at noon on Fridays and at 6 p.m. on Sundays. More information about the podcast, including the trailer, is available at wuwm.com/swing-state.
