WMSE’s Rockabilly Chili Winners Announced

Winners determined by votes from more than 3,000 event attendees

MILWAUKEE – April 17, 2023 – WMSE 91.7FM, Milwaukee’s only free-form, community-supported radio station, has announced the results of its 21st annual Rockabilly Chili cookoff, which is a fundraiser for the station. More than 42 chilis crafted by Milwaukee-area restaurants were in the running to be named champions in the categories of meat, heat, veggie, and unique chili. More than 3,000 event attendees enjoyed samples of chilis and voted to determine this year’s winners.

Winner: Beans & Barley
Runners up: Glorioso’s Appetito & Sage Harvest; Sweet Basil

Most Unique
Winner: Sweet Basil
Runners up: The Old German Beer; Hacienda Taproom & Kitchen

Best Heat
Winner: Crafty Cow
Runners up: Café Corazon; Hacienda Taproom & Kitchen

Beat Meat
Winner: Kettle Range Meat Company
Runners up: The Bay; Hacienda Taproom & Kitchen

Best Veggie
Winner: Twisted Plants
Runners up: Strange Town; MPS School to Work Transition Program

“Rockabilly Chili is not only an important event for the station, but it’s also a feel-good experience for the entire community,” said Station Manager Tom Crawford. “We never take for granted how special it is that thousands of people gather and celebrate their love of WMSE, local restaurants, and chili. The voters take the competition very seriously and the competition is steep. The champions work incredibly hard to earn their titles.
