WisGOP Reaction to the State of the State Address

By - Feb 17th, 2026 08:06 pm

MADISON, Wis. — In his final State of the State address tonight, Tony Evers predictably attempted to rewrite history, claiming personal credit for bipartisan progress on tax relief, affordable housing, and lower utility costs. These achievements only happened because Republicans in the Legislature held the line against his tax-and-spend antics and forced real results.

“Tony Evers spent his speech misleading Wisconsinites by taking sole credit for wins delivered by the Republican Legislature,” stated WisGOP Chairman Brian Schimming. “From over $2 billion in annual tax cuts, to eliminating the sales tax on utility bills, and expanding affordable housing options, these successes were only possible because of our Republican Assembly and Senate. Without Republican majorities checking Evers, Sara Rodriguez, and Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin families would face even higher taxes, unchecked spending, and rising costs of living.”

Republicans have consistently delivered for working families: record tax relief benefiting the middle class, workforce training for over 127,000 workers, debt reduction, and measures to keep energy affordable. Evers’ record includes vetoing billions in additional GOP tax cuts and blocking bolder reforms.

As Wisconsin heads into the 2026 elections, Republicans remain focused on protecting these gains and delivering more. Republicans will continue to fight for lower property taxes, stronger schools, and real affordability.
