Wisconsin SNAP Enrollment Drops by Over 15,000 Following OBBB Cuts Brought to You by Tom Tiffany

MADISON, Wis. — Over 15,000 fewer Wisconsinites are receiving SNAP benefits compared to last July when Tom Tiffany enthusiastically voted to pass Trump’s Big Ugly Budget Bill, saying it was a “game changer” for America. The bill was the largest cut to SNAP in the program’s history. Over 700,000 Wisconsinites receive SNAP benefits—more than 60% are households with children and 36% are households with at least one member that is elderly or disabled.

“Tom Tiffany voted for the largest cuts to SNAP in the program’s history, leaving thousands of Wisconsinites without food—including children, veterans and the elderly and disabled,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Emily Stuckey. “Not only is Tiffany completely out of touch with the daily needs of Wisconsinites as they try to make ends meet in the thick of the GOP’s cost-of-living crisis, he’s actively making matters worse.”

Tiffany has celebrated Ron Johnson’s attempts at greater cuts in the Big Ugly Bill, saying “Go, Ron, go” and that Republicans must “push every single opportunity” for cuts. When Wisconsinites were without SNAP benefits because Trump voluntarily froze funds for the program amidst the government shutdown, Tiffany was silent. This drop in enrollment comes as Wisconsinites are already struggling to make ends meet in a cost-of-living crisis as a result of tariff-induced spikes in grocery prices and rising gas prices due to Trump’s illegal war with Iran.
