Wisconsin Sees Unemployment at or Below 3% for a Record Eight Straight Months

MADISON – Wisconsin’s unemployment rate has stayed at or below 3.0% for a record eight straight months, according to information released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD).
“Wisconsin is continuing our record of economic success with our eighth straight month of unemployment at or below 3%,” said Governor Scott Walker. “This is a huge change from where our state was eight years ago with an unemployment rate of 9.3% in January 2010. With our thriving economy and workforce development, we will continue to build on our state’s success. We are moving Wisconsin forward.”
DWD released the following information today:
- Wisconsin’s preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in September remained unchanged at 3 percent;
- Wisconsin added a statistically significant 35,900 private-sector jobs from September 2017 to September 2018, with 22,800 manufacturing jobs added over the same time period; and
- Wisconsin added a statistically significant 41,700 non-farm jobs from September 2017 to September 2018. Manufacturing jobs in September totaled 489,700, the highest level since September 2008.
