Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus Announces Annual Black History Month Kickoff, District Events, and Black Advocacy Day
MILWAUKEE – Today, members of the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus announced a series of Black History Month engagements honoring a century of Black History commemorations and advocating for a better future. These events follow the Black Caucus’ recent statewide tour in 2025 to build a Black Policy Agenda that uplifts all of Wisconsin. Chairwoman Senator Drake provided the following statement.
“For over a century, scholars, leaders, and community members have diligently preserved and commemorated Black History, enriching our knowledge and cultural tapestry. This monumental effort was spearheaded by visionary figures like Dr. Carter Godwin Woodson, George Cleveland Hall, William B. Hartgrove, Jesse E. Moorland, Alexander L. Jackson, and James E. Stamps, who played a pivotal role in institutionalizing Black History.
Black history is an integral part of American history, and our contributions have elevated our nation to its greatest heights. We have significantly shaped America’s unique culture and innovation, all while making immense sacrifices for freedom, and justice for all. Although our sacrifices were not always acknowledged from the American Revolution onward, our unwavering love for our nation persisted, even when it wasn’t reciprocated. Yet, we persistently pushed for improvement and progress.
As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the greatest democracy known to the world this year, it is undeniable that Black Americans played an indispensable role in its legacy. Our struggles, liberation, and unwavering commitment to the principles of this country speak volumes. While we celebrate our achievements, it is crucial to recognize that there is still much work to be done. This year, the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus will honor our past while continuing to advocate for a brighter future. We will present a vision for a better Wisconsin that not only enhances the lives of Black Wisconsinites but uplifts all residents of our state. This is the true legacy and history we bestow upon America every single day.”
The Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus activities will begin with our annual Kick Off Celebration at the State Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday February 3rd at 12 PM and will culminate with Black Advocacy Day on Thursday February 26th at the State Capitol as well. A full listing of events can be found on our website legis.wisconsin.gov/wlbc/events. All events are open to the public.
