Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that Dean Amhaus, President and CEO of The Water Council, will join her as a guest at President Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Headquartered in Milwaukee, The Water Council aims to establish the region as the World Water Hub for water research, economic development, and education through their convening of leaders in the fresh water research community and water-related industries.

“Containing over one-fifth of the world’s freshwater, the Great Lakes are a critical asset for our quality of life in Wisconsin, but also for our nation’s long-term economic security. That is why I will continue to carry the banner for investing in Wisconsin science, research and innovation,” said Senator Baldwin. “The Water Council’s efforts are a perfect example of how we can grow public-private partnerships to create jobs and build a pro-growth ‘Made in Wisconsin’ economy. I have seen firsthand the important work Dean and The Water Council are doing to help transform Milwaukee into the world hub for water research, education and economic development and I am proud to be a voice for their efforts and have him as my guest as the President addresses our nation next week.”

“Its truly an honor to be invited by Senator Baldwin to represent Wisconsin’s water technology cluster, and I look forward to attending the Presidents State of the Union Address,” said Amhaus. “Senator Baldwin has been a strong champion for the cluster in Washington, D.C. as she understands the global water crisis and recognizes the opportunities for our companies and universities.”

In October, thanks to Senator Baldwin’s support, the Small Business Administration announced that The Water Council was selected for a Regional Innovation Cluster Award to establish a Center of Excellence for Freshwater Innovation and Small Business Development. Senator Baldwin also participated in the opening of The Water Council’s Global Water Center and the launch of the BREW (Business. Research. Entrepreneurship. In Wisconsin.) program.
