WATCH: Senator Baldwin Calls Out Trump’s FCC on Efforts to Stifle Free Speech
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, called out the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on his efforts to stifle free speech and increase market consolidation. Today’s FCC Oversight Hearing comes after FCC Chair Brendan Carr threatened regulatory action against ABC and its affiliates, leading to the temporary suspension of late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel.
During her questioning, Baldwin highlighted FCC Chairman Carr’s use of merger review to force companies to enact policies favored by the Trump Administration, while leaving consumers with higher prices and fewer choices.
In September, Senator Baldwin demanded answers from the Trump Administration for censoring critics and infringing on Americans’ First Amendment right to free speech, specifically calling out Chairman Carr for censoring Jimmy Kimmel.A recording of Senator Baldwin’s question is available here.
